What are the Pillars of Wellness?
July 27, 2022
The pillars of wellness are five foundational areas of life to focus on in the quest to reach optimal health and balance. When these five areas are balanced, our lives are balanced. The Five Pillars of Wellness are physical, mental, emotional, spiritual, and financial.
Physical
Physical wellness includes your entire physical world; your physical body, and your physical surroundings. Body wellness tends to be what we most commonly associate with when we are talking about health and well-being.

Mental
Mental wellness includes caring for our intellectual health. This could be reading a book, learning a new skill, or doing a puzzle. Activities that keep our minds engaged and growing will keep us more engaged and balanced in our lives.

Emotional
Emotional wellness, which includes social wellness, is key for healthy relationships with ourselves and others. When we learn how to allow ourselves to feel and express the full range of normal emotions, including the not-so-pleasant ones, we have a better emotional balance.

Spiritual
Spiritual wellness doesn’t necessarily mean going to church or being a part of a religion. A spiritual practice is about connecting with experiences and people that leave us feeling deeply nourished. This could be drinking in a beautiful natural landscape, savoring a musical number, creating a meditation practice, or prayer.

Financial
Financial wellness is about developing a healthy relationship with our finances and occupation. You don’t have to be filthy rich to have a financial balance. Finding job satisfaction and living within your means are two examples of financial wellness.
